staying in my lane || week 14

"Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work."
— Adrienne Rich

the week is full of awakenings
both for myself and the world around me
every day something new is in bloom
every day something new has popped up out the ground
every day i grasp that life is so worth the hard work it requirers

"You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That's the only thing you should be trying to control."
— Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

i test boundaries, trying them on to see how they feel
a bit odd at first, but i ease into them, and feel good about the outcome
i exercise kindness and trust (to myself and others)
and try pausing before i speak
practicing leaving the storybook version
out of my head. . .

“Compassionate people ask for what they need. They say no when they need to, and when they say yes, they mean it. They're compassionate because their boundaries keep them out of resentment.”
― Brené Brown, Rising Strong

three things ::
espresso with almond milk, over ice is so good
we ate the first rhubarb from the garden
today i planted sugar snap peas

15/52
i am still taking shots of Basil each week
but somehow the self portrait thing i was doing, the 52 of me
has become a chore and not a necessity, so i am letting it go
for now. . .

“Stay in your own lane. Comparison kills creativity and joy.”
― Brené Brown, Rising Strong
