I believe that everything starts by paying attention. Life is imperfect and any magical light we can bring into our day is worthy of our gratitude. Laughter and love, joy and celebrations slip into our lives with ease but learning to cope with the deep pain life brings to us is also necessary. I do this best with my camera, chasing down light, zooming in and out and pairing it all with truth.

I live in Western Washington with my husband of 40+ years, in the home where we raised our three sons. We share that home now with our sweet beagle named Basil.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

a shift || week 45

a shift || week 45

"We cast a shadow on something wherever we stand, and it is no good moving from place to place to save things; because the shadow always follows. Choose a place where you won't do harm - yes, choose a place where you won't do very much harm, and stand in it for all you are worth, facing the sunshine."
~ E.M. Forster. Room With A View

the week is full of deep conversations, being heard, laughter, beautiful views and oysters.
it is full of simple truths, shock and trying to understand, and a bit of fear.
i find gratitude each day and so much beauty, i speak my truths kindly and grow.

"The only lies for which we are truly punished are those we tell ourselves."
~V.S. Naipaul, In a Free State

i compare the need to write what is inside of me with the weight
of my camera, and right now
my camera wins. . .

“If one is out of touch with oneself, then one cannot touch others.”
– Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Gift from the Sea

i feel the need for a shift
for my own sanity and my own growth.
i buy a new journal,
i buy a coke,
i relax . . .

"Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye and sailed back over a year and in and out of weeks and through a day and into the night of his very own room where he found his supper waiting for him—and it was still hot."
~ Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

i make a pack with myself to let go of some of this pain,
(yes, i think it might be that simple)
to allow the beauty of life to float around me, never unnoticed
to aim for happiness,
to just love . . .

"For Siddalee Walker, the need to understand has passed, at least for the moment. All that was left was love and wonder ~Rebecca Wells, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,

“She generally gave herself very good advice (though she very seldom followed it).”
– Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
