"I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity."
~ Albert Einstein
i stand and watch the snow fall and feel the cold deep inside my bones.
and then one day i prune all the roses, bundled up against the chill, and notice
tiny signs of spring and feel the cold start to relinquish its grip.
i buy the fist bunch of asparagus at the market and marvel at its taste.
i feel lighthearted and confidant that spring is doing her thing.
"Don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change once in a while.
~ Kin Hubbard
i think a lot this week about my camera, maybe because
it sits idle until dinner time or even later, as i wait for the rain to ease up.
but the rain is diligent and i am left seeking light and something of interest to focus on.
i see so clearly that i am in a rut and scout out some new
inspiration. i make lists, and narrow things down a bit.
i back away and take a look around me. seeking out some new territory,
within my world, practicing an open mind and a different point of view.
there are a few possibilities.
"I am not interested in shooting new things - I am interested to see things new."
~ Ernst Haas
i dig through my archives, looking for patterns. i see how my
eye has changed, how opportunity and passion, intensity, discipline
and effort all play a part. i recognize how i have abandoned these
and have been shooting halfheartedly, listless and somewhat aloof.
afraid to not do it, but also to lazy to do much about it.
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
i take some time to think about intention.
i try applying it to what i am doing throughout the day.
i overthink and back up, i struggle and hold on too tight,
i pause and let go of doubt. i decide to dive in to
see where it all might take me.
“Don’t try to be an artist. Find the thing within you that needs to be expressed. You might find it is art.”
– Duane Michals
“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
