notes on living a life

three on tuesday || gathering

"We can experience nothing but the present moment, live in no other second of time, and to understand this is as close as we can get to eternal life."
~ P.D. James, The Children of Men

i spend a few days in the company of five beautiful, truth-seeking woman.
woman who speak to my soul, open up my curiosity and who laugh
and love with their whole being.

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look once in awhile, you could miss it."
~ Matthew Brodick, Ferris Buller's Day Off

i am the oldest by at least 15 years, a situation that is
rare for me among most of my friends.
a place i have fought in past gatherings.
i slip into it with grace this go-around, understanding
it is my delusion, and not worthy of the
the time i have given it in the past.

“I believe a strong woman may be stronger than a man, particularly if she happens to have love in her heart. I guess a loving woman is indestructible.”
~ John Steinbeck, East of Eden

i return home with an abundance of kindness towards myself
that is rare. i find grace within it and droplets of equanimity settle in.
i also come home a bourbon drinker.

I know folks all have a tizzy about it, but I like a little bourbon of an evening. It helps me sleep. I don't much care what they say about it.
~ Lillian Gordy Carter
