I believe that everything starts by paying attention. Life is imperfect and any magical light we can bring into our day is worthy of our gratitude. Laughter and love, joy and celebrations slip into our lives with ease but learning to cope with the deep pain life brings to us is also necessary. I do this best with my camera, chasing down light, zooming in and out and pairing it all with truth.

I live in Western Washington with my husband of 40+ years, in the home where we raised our three sons. We share that home now with our sweet beagle named Basil.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

the dog and i followed a new path today around the pond
a path that has been here the whole time
in the past he has pulled me toward that path and i have resisted
but today i followed him
and it made me wonder why we often keep on the same path
day after day, week after week,
in so much of life
because the light was magical
and the trees were huge. . .
and we both came home recharged

there are days that are just hard
this was one of them
good news which should have been
the highlight of the day
yet it wasn't
my feelings bounced between
anger and frustration
which overshadowed all the goodness
and his hard work

there was a preacher outside the grocery store today
who used a loud speaker and scolded us
for idolizing football
i have my own battles with professional sports
thinking the players get paid way too much
but i must admit even i am excited for tomorrows game
and i am not going to feel bad about that

he wanted taco soup to eat during the game
and these for dessert, one of his favorites
it was the second game i watched this year
and even i knew that the last play was crazy
on the plus side there are no fireworks
to make Basil's evening hell. . .

today was quiet
i made it to the gym
and the dog and i walked
but there are days
that seem long and a bit lonely
and today was one of them

we headed to the water
because that always makes me feel better
we walked and walked
he sniffed and took photos
we really make the perfect team
i swear this bird never did move
he almost walked right up to her

a friend told me she gave up habitual things in january
even good habitual things
i thought of nothing else all day long
and decided if i was tired of the same old story
others probably are too
so there was tea in the morning
and a new yoga class in a real yoga studio
in the evening
it felt like a good start
