i wake with a heaviness and darkness that persists so long
that i seek out the deepest corner of the house to curl up in.
it is not long before the dog finds me and snuggles his warm body
up beside mine and we both sleep. later we go for a walk
around the ponds, leaving everything we normally take with us
behind at the house: my camera, his treats, and my phone. i feel lighter as we step out
into the sunshine and patches of blue sky and i feel the warmth surround me.
i soften. he explores down by the shore and i spot several little critters bobbing
in and out of the dead leaves which are trapped underwater. not bugs, not tadpoles,
but something new (to me anyway).
i put my hand on the book as soon as i walk in the basement.
no searching every bookshelf because i know right where it is.
