the heat kicked on this morning, it was that cold;
i turned it off and bundled up, knowing the sun
would warm us up in a few hours.
there was work in the garden,
a few potatoes dug for dinner
and lots of deadheading. . .
i sat on the lawn and watched the leaves blow
in the tress across the street, flickering yellows and
flashes of silver, while the dog sniffed the perimeters of the yard
checking in with me every few minutes.
i sat there for over an hour
just watching and noticing
and giving out tummy rubs when asked.
